BREAKIN' ARTISTS SPOTLIGHT: WYLD MONEY

Alan “Wyld Money” Archer is the latest in the long stream of Hip Hop phenoms to hail from the so-called “Seven Cities” of Virginia more widely known as the Tide Water area. Born in Portsmouth, VA in the early 80’s to a music teacher, Alan was a rambunctious child earning him the moniker “Wild Child” from family and friends. Aside, from his penchant for mischief, Wyld developed a keen interest in his mother’s passion for music, but being the youngest of 5 to a single mother brought about financial and housing instability which Both would come to serve him well in his future profession. Right before his entry to Tallwood H.S. in Virginia Beach Wyld Money got caught up in the “street life” as a means of financing a budding Hip Hop career. This activity caused problems in the home forcing Wyld to constantly relocate and learn to adjust to new environments. Senior year, Tallwood High, Virginia Beach, Wyld Money sits in a classroom preparing to take a final exam when suddenly several well dressed men enter and arrest him to the shock of his classmates. Incarcerated and facing federal time for a small role in a drug conspiracy Wyld still maintained his musical aspirations. The case culminated in a short sentence - time Wyld used wisely to soul search resulting in a career shift from a full time hustla to a producer/rapper with a renewed commitment to his musical ambitions. Upon his release after serving slightly more than a year in prison Wyld immersed himself in all facets of music and studied recording engineering as a legitimate means to support himself. After graduation Wyld was introduced to famed producer Teddy Riley by a mutual friend for a job as engineer in his studio and was promptly hired. The job lasted all of one day after Teddy instructed Wyld to perform some menial duties. In hindsight, Wyld says he now knows Teddy did nothing wrong but it was still that “street” in him that made him take offense and quit on the spot. Jobless and on federal probation, Wyld reverted once again to the only thing that was a constant throughout his entire life, THE STREETS. After a few years of simultaneously grinding in the streets and the VA music scene Wyld established lots of connections on both sides of the track. His contacts led to many trips up and down the eastern seaboard between New York and Miami shopping his music to the likes of Scott Storch, Murder INC., Def Jam and Universal. Although the meetings seemed promising no meaningful outcome materialized. Disappointed but still determined Wyld returned to Virginia only to be targeted in a robbery attempt that turned into a wild shootout. The gun battle left Wyld with a bullet wound in his leg and the subject of yet another criminal investigation. After being cleared of charges Wyld moved to ATL to fully pursue his music career and get his life together. With a life rich in both music and experiences to tap into for content and style, Wyld stands poised to ascend the Hip Hop throne. Throughout all the adversity Wyld never lost sight of his goal and honed his craft - waiting for the right time to strike. Like a long awaited breath of fresh air his time has finally come!
